Ypsilanti, MI

Ypsilanti is a city in Washtenaw County, Michigan. According to the 2010 census, the population was 21,018. The city is best known for being home to Eastern Michigan University. In 1809, Ypsilanti was founded as a trading post by French-Canadian fur trader, Gabriel Godfroy. The city was named in honor of Demetrios Ypsilantis, a hero from the Greek War of Independence. Ypsilanti is commonly shortened to “Yspi”. The city has the second largest contiguous historic district in Michigan. Places to visit include Depot Town, Michigan Firehouse Museum, and Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum. Ypsilanti hosts an array of annual events, such as Ypsilanti Comic Con., Michigan ElvisFest, and Ypsilanti Heritage Festival.
