The Story of a $500 House in Detroit

June 24, 2019, 7:00pm - 8:30pm

Troy Public Library

Adult, Free

Drew Philp, an idealistic college student from a working-class Michigan family, decided to live where he could make a difference - Detroit. His book - A $500 House in Detroit, is his raw and earnest account of rebuilding everything but the frame of his house - in the east side neighborhood known as Poletown, nail by nail, room by room while assimilating into the community around him. Along with a short reading, the author will be showing pictures of the house, neighborhood, and characters; taking listeners "behind the scenes" and telling stories not included in the book. There will also be time for Drew to take audience questions.
