Sky Foundation, Inc

Sky Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to raising funds to advance research and increase awareness for the early detection and treatment of pancreatic cancer. We are patient-focused, and our goal is to empower and bring hope to those affected by the disease. With pancreatic cancer, recognizing even subtle changes in your body is critical, as is awareness of family history. Our foundation recommends genetic counseling as one important step in prevention for individuals who have first-tier relatives (parent or sibling) or two or more second-tier relatives (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins) with a history of pancreatic cancer. Many health facilities in the metropolitan Detroit area have cancer genetics programs, including the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, Henry Ford Health System, and the University of Michigan. Awareness of family history and changes in your body are critical to your well-being. For decades, pancreatic cancer research has been underfunded by the National Cancer Institute, even though pancreatic cancer is the fourth-leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Sky Foundation, Inc.’s mission to raise funds for research grants supplements government funding by providing direct support to scientists providing innovative approaches in prevention and early detection. Our foundation is a 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization that was founded in June 2008 by Sheila Sky Kasselman, who is a survivor of pancreatic cancer. Sky Foundation’s governing and advisory boards are comprised of business, medical, and legal professionals who volunteer their time and dedicate their efforts toward raising funds for pancreatic cancer research and awareness.
