Pontiac, MI

Pontiac is a city in Southwest Michigan and is the county seat of Oakland County. Founded in 1818, the area was the second European-American organized settlement in Michigan within close proximity to Detroit. It currently has a population of over 59,500. The city was named after an Ottawa Native American war chief, who originally occupied the area. Pontiac was once known for being home to a General Motors automobile manufacturing plant. It was also home to the Pontiac Silverdome, where the Detroit Lions professional football team played until 2001 when the team was moved to Ford Field in Detroit. Popular attractions include The Crofoot, Erebus, and the Flagstar Strand Theatre for the Performing Arts.
