Detroit, MI

Detroit is the most populous city in Michigan and the largest city on the United States-Canada border. It is the only city in the U.S. where people can look South to see Canada. Detroit the second largest city in the Midwest with a city population of 673,104 and a metropolitan population of over 4.3 million. Detroit is known for being the center of the U.S. automobile industry and is headquarters for General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler. It is also home to the first concrete highway and the first four-way three-color traffic light. Some of Detroit’s nicknames include: “Motor City”, “Motown”, “The D”, “Rock City”, and “The 313”. Detroit is the birthplace of Motown Records and Ginger Ale. Some points of interest are Belle Isle Park, the Renaissance Center, Detroit Institute of Arts, Campus Martius Park, and Greektown Detroit. Some popular events include North American International Auto Show, MOVEMENT: Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival, Detroit Jazz Fest, and the Turkey Trot & Mash Potato Mile.
